Your Compaira profile - why it's so cool
Updated: Aug 21, 2020
If I had to collect a penny every time someone said they are good at it but were not even close to average, I would be a millionaire by now. Why is it that we always tend to overestimate our capabilities and underestimate others capabilities. Why do men more than women overstate their potential? What are the implications of such perceptions?
Galileo once wondered if we misinterpreted our lives. If we are to remove any living thing then our perceptions of taste, odour, colour will cease to exist. The world we perceive is part of our constructed reality. We have all agreed to a set of norms which we then use to build our view of the world. This mental model of the world that we construct shapes our emotions, behaviour etc going forward. When we start amplifying our view of our capabilities then the gap between perception and reality widens. Studies have also shown that when we keep reiterating something constantly, we tend to internalise it and we start truly believing in it. Hence the gap.
We have also seen that when individuals are shown how they are perceived by their friends and colleagues they tend to refute if there is a gap. It could result in two things, they would dismiss their behaviour as acceptable which basically is a lost opportunity. In some cases, people tend to seek feedback to validate this perception and when they do, they tend to make amends.
We have created a profile which allows you to understand what drives you at a deeper level. The profile has the ability to capture user behaviour and then present a view of how they could be perceived. The user is then invited to validate the profile before they embark on any change.
Compaira profile is an unbiased view that helps you understand what drives you, shapes your thinking and behaviours and as a result helps you realise your Potential. There are four core drivers which provide meaning to your view of the world, your actions and helps you to maximise your potential. They are Hero, Explorer, Angel and Discoverer. Although we all possess the ability to be all of these, we normally tend to prefer a specific driver. By understanding this, you will be able to communicate better, work well in teams, understand your motivations and as a result become more focused. These core drivers provide meaning to an individual’s view of the world and more importantly demonstrates that they are part of something greater than themselves.
It gives meaning to their actions and helps them achieve their dreams by helping them believe that they were “chosen” to do something. Development & Accomplishment is the internal drive of making progress, developing skills, and eventually overcoming challenges. The word “challenge” here is very important, as this is what motivates people to go the extra mile.
We all have four different drivers that drive our mental model. When you complete the Compaira Profile, you will be able to see how you behaviours and actions could be perceived by others. This exercise allows you to see if your self perception matches reality. If it does then you are good to go. If it does not, then this becomes an excellent opportunity for you to identify how you can alter perceptions. Not only you become self-aware but also have the ability to use that self awareness to construct a positive view of yourself with others. Most of the time it is just a simple case of getting others to see why you do what you do or in some extreme cases changing your behaviour. Either ways you emerge as the winner.
